first post here.
Hi people, first post here.

Just a thought - are you guys more likely to check this, or your email? Cos obviously this can be updated more easily than the mailing list cos yahoo takes 2309812031 years to send out an email to Hotmail. Though, for more official purposes (mailing out of speeches etc), we'll prolly have to stick to the mailing list to be safe.

ANYWAY - I see activity here, which is very exciting, keep up the good spirits, people!

WRT yesterday's training - you guys all did a decent job. No Denise, you didn't "screw up". Not anymore than everybody else, anyway. Haha. At this stage, it is obvious that all of you suffer from a severe Lack of Knowledge. Ergo, once you know enough about the issue, you will find that 6 minutes is incredibly little time to deliver a comprehensive speech. So conclusion? Read, read and read some more. Set a news website as your browser homepage so every time you use the net you are forced to at least look at the headlines. I like the International Herald Tribune alot; google news is quite nicely organised too. Also don't neglect local news, because afterall, we are still debating in Singapore.

Additionally, I have tried to call the up-till-now-absent people to fairly depressing results. Elijah has 2 numbers - one is not in use, and I think he switched his phone off for the other. 2 interesting observations/questions:

1. Do people still NOT check their email regularly these days?

2. Do people (teenagers) actually......go to bed before 9pm?!

Discuss.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was, if anybody has their emails, please give them to me, so I can add them to the mailing list and try to contact them.

As it stands, it seems like the 15th is gonna be the best date thus far. I'm looking at doing a full day (morning-late afternoon) thingum so we can spar, do a style exercise and do a bit of team bonding. Which should hopefully be fun.

At any rate, for those of you who have been turning up conscientiously - I REALLY appreciate it. I'll hopefully see you guys again this December. Check your emails!

List of Controversial Topics
I remember that Jun Sheng was asking us to compile a set of referential notes containing all sorts of general knowledge and real life situations to help us with our motions, especially for impromptu debates.

Anyway I think it's a good idea since it'd help us with our training and any future competitions. So far I've gathered a list of a select few controversial issues likely to appear in debating motions off Wikipedia and some that I came up with.

It may not be too much but it's a good stepping stone to get the ball rolling. It'll be messy once the huge chunks of information appear though, so don't post any of those until we get a section dedicated to it up. Other than that, anyone is welcome to contribute more topics to this list =D
I'll put them up if you post them in the tagboard or email me.

Topics:

Abortion
Alchoholism
Assisted Suicide
Cloning
Death Penalty
Drug Trafficking
Euthanasia
Foreign Talents
Gambling
Genetic Engineering
Gun Politics
Hate Crimes
Homosexuality/ Same Sex Marriage
Media Violence
Media Censorship
Organ Trading
Pornography
Smoking
Soft Drugs
Sperm/Egg donation
Stem Cell Research
Surrogacy
Terrorism
Underage Sex
United Nations
Veganism/Vegetarianism
Video Games

Today
Hi guys.
I'm really really pleased. Cos Yingchen gave his link and Junwei his email.
(:
Cause for celebration.
But I still need Yingchen's email so I can add him as an administrator of the blog.
Oh, speaking of today.
I screwed up la.
THAT would be obvious.
Wonder why Carissa didn't show up though?
Today's motion: THW repeal 377A
I was on opp, which spelt doom for me and for the whole team.
Since the bulk of my information hinged on the proposition.
Anyway, moving on.
We're gonna have December holiday trainings as well, however, they are few in number.
Junsheng's gonna have to see first though, since me and Yingchen are going abroad.
Plus the class gatherings.
I really hope Shenle, Mok, Edlind, Elijah & Yanting will make it though.

THW repeal section 377A of the Penal Code
Oh, this motion is driving me crazy.

I only have ONE point, and Thio Li-Ann isn't helping me much.
Her speech does nothing but slander gays.
It's plainly a hate speech. =.=
Well, I got the tagboard up, and 2 links.
I don't know about the others though.
Carissa doesn't have a blog.
Speaking of Carissa, I wonder if she'll come tomorrow.

Intro
Denise here.

I started this blog, well, to add on as an accessory for the club.
Hey, who knows, we could even use this during the CCA ex!
Just hope this wouldn't go dead.
Posting this as an intro...
Will tell this to the others so they can post some stuff.
I think I'll post something on our current motion...
